What I want to do is delete the national instruments FOLDER.

I'm not able to uninstall the program because it does not show up in the Programs and Features option, nor is it running in the Task Manager. But I found NI folders in "OS(C:)>Program Files" as well as in "OS(C:)>Program Files(x86)".

I know many mentioned trying MSIblast but the links/tags came up as errors when I clicked on them.

Presumably you uninstalled all the features in teh global "National Insutrments Software" unisntaller in Add Remove Programs?

This still leaves folders for some shared items in Program Files but you can delete these if you have removed all the features.

Yes, all the features were uninstalled through Add/Remove. The strange problem I'm having is when I try to delete the files from my computer. It won't allow me to do it when it should be as simple as selecting it to be deleted

Make sure you have Administrator rights. Deleting any items in Program Files requires these rights; it's not speciifc to NI.

I'm the administrator on my computer, which is why this problem is really strange and frustrating.

Edit: I do not have this problem with other programs that I have uninstalled in the same way.

It may be a "Windows Thing". If you are certain that you want to delete the folders, you can always reboot into "Safe Mode", preferably a DOS prompt, and do the deletion from there. Be careful, though ...

What is the exact OS version?

What is the error message you get when you try to delete?

Some "Security software", e.g. antivirus, prevent modification of the program files hierarchy.

You might have to "take ownership" of the folders before deleting.

Thank you, BS.

altenbach, I have Windows 7. I get the message "This action can't be completed because the folder or file in it is open in another program."

I'm not the best with programs, but I didn't see it running in the task manager, so I thought there wouldn't be anything running. Suggestions?

Yes, try rebooting to safe mode as suggested by Bob.

(could it be that you have an explorer window open for one of the sub-folders?)
